Twins Fenick and Fenia (aged 6) were welcomed into our Open Doorways family at the end of May.

Meet our project co-ordinator in Haiti

Since 2009, Gerald Augustin has worked with us in planning and overseeing the construction of the orphanage home that began in January of 2010, the hiring of staff and welcoming of children. We are thankful for his guidance and dedication.

Property update

Our property has an existing building that was being used as the high school. A new church has been built a short distance away from ODO and the old church has now become the high school.

This has given us an empty building to work with and an estimate cost of $20,000 has been received for its conversion as an activities/study room for the children and a couple of small bedrooms to accommodate visitors. Would you consider a donation towards this project? You are welcome to contact us if you would like more information on this project.

Monthly Sponsorship or one-time donations

The on-going care and well being of the children and staff wages are our primary focus. We are thankful to all our current monthly donors for their commitment in the donation amount of their choice and to everyone who support us with one-time donations.

"In Memory" or "In Lieu of" donations

You may want to consider a donation “In Memory” of a loved one or a gift donation “In Lieu of” where the recipient receives the official tax receipt. This may be a gift option to consider for Christmas, birthday, anniversary or any other special occasion.

How to forward donations

We accept cheques payable to Open Doorways Orphanage Inc. as well as post-dated cheques for monthly sponsorship. Donations can also be made on-line through Paypal. Canadian donations over $10.00 are issued an official tax receipt.

Message from the Board of Directors

Since going public in 2003 with our vision of building a home for orphaned and abandoned children in Haiti, with much dedication and perseverance our goal became a reality in November 2011 where our first three children were welcomed to the ODO family. Since then our family has grown to 12 beautiful children. They are loved, clothed, fed, have safe water to drink, given medical care, attend school and belong to a faith community.

This vision of bringing hope for a brighter future to some of Haiti’s children struggling with poverty could not have happened without the encouraging kind and caring support of prayers, fundraising, volunteering and monetary donations received. This is an on-going project and we extend our deepest and heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you for journeying and partnering with us!

We are often asked the question how our children are chosen to become part of our family. The local health and social services make referrals to us of children in desperate and hopeless situations. This is assessed and as long as the funds are in place for the care of another child, they are given a home and a new family life. ODO has been built for the care of about 30 children.

We look forward to hearing from you and working together with love as we bring in the New Year 2013.

From our homes to yours we extend our greetings for blessings filled with peace and joy throughout the Christmas celebrations and the New Year.

The Rt. Hon Edward Schreyer

I write in support of a cause of crying need and undeniable merit. Sharon Dugard seeks to build an orphanage to finally give a home to young people. In childhood, without a home, there is no hope. They have no chance to learn how to earn a livelihood either. If Sharon succeeds, many youngsters' lives will change from despair to normal hope. As one who supports Habitat for Humanity because of the hope it brings to young families, I find it compelling to support this effort on behalf of homeless children.
